Self-care tips for mums that fit into a busy schedule

1. Find some “You” Time every day

  • Even if it’s just 10–15 minutes, dedicate some time each day to yourself. This could be as simple as enjoying a hot cup of coffee in peace, reading a few pages of a book, magazine or doing a short online work out.

2. Practice Mindfulness or Meditation

  • Apps like Calm or Headspace offer short, guided meditations that can help you relax, focus, and reduce stress. Try practicing deep breathing or mindfulness for a few minutes in the morning or before bed.

3. Get Moving in Small Bursts

  • Exercise doesn’t have to mean an hour at the gym. Even short, 10-minute workouts, a quick walk outside or some stretches can boost your mood and energy levels.

4. Set Boundaries and Say “No”

  • It’s okay to decline some invitations or commitments that might stretch you too thin. Prioritise what’s best for your family and yourself and don’t feel guilty for saying “no” when you need to.

5. Sleep Supportively When You Can

  • Rest is essential, so prioritise getting quality sleep. Try a relaxing bedtime routine—dim lights, no screens an hour before bed or even listening to calming music or white noise to wind down.

6. Ask for Help When Needed

  • Reach out to family, friends or other mums when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Sharing tasks, swapping childcare, or even just venting can make a world of difference.

7. Nourish Your Body

  • Prep easy, nutritious snacks (like nuts, fruits, or yogurt) so you don’t skip meals. Staying hydrated and getting regular, balanced meals help with energy and mood.

8. Engage in a Hobby

  • Revisit something you love or try something new. A quick craft, writing, gardening, or photography can help you unwind and reconnect with yourself.

9. Meet up with other mums

  • Finding a group of supportive mums online or in your area can give you an instant network of friends who understand your challenges and successes.

10. Be kind to yourself and don’t beat yourself up

  • Remind yourself that being a mum is a balancing act and perfection is never the goal. Celebrate small wins, acknowledge that some days will be harder than others, and focus on the love and care you give each day. Some days will be a winning day but most days will be a learning day.

Even small moments of self-care can recharge you and help you navigate the ups and downs of motherhood with a bit more balance and calm
